Critical illness is a traumatic experience. We want to make sure surviving isn’t. ICUsteps helps patients and relatives come to terms with surviving critical illness through providing patient information, support groups, research and educating healthcare professionals about the physical and psychological issues we face on our long road to recovery.
COVID-19 has dramatically increased the number of people in intensive care while a stretched NHS is even less likely to have the time or funds to help support those who are recovering from the experience.
A large part of what we do is to provide recovering patients with information to make them feel less alone as they rebuild their lives and their wellbeing but we do not have the money to get this info into the thousands of people leaving ICU units every week. Donations from our fundraisers helps us to raise awareness of our activities and allow us to implement our plans.
